The ECA Library is hard at work with a brand new project that seeks to identify former staff from the Economic Commission of Africa (ECA). This treasure trove of staff pictures dating back to the 70s was uncovered by the UNSSS team, who reached out to the Library’s Multimedia team to digitize and archive the images, as part of the institutional memory of ECA. Hanna Ousman has taken the lead of the digitization component of the project, while Yemisrach Taddesse and Dereje Ergete have embarked on the meticulous task of cleaning and cataloguing the images. Eskindir Awoke has been leading the research front. Nevertheless, it’s been no small feat to attempt to identify the faces of former staffers in hundreds of black and white images, which is why the ECA Library is now reaching out the entire UN system seeking any identifying information that veterans in the organization might be able to provide. Whether it’s just a first name or a full name and surname, the ECA Library would be grateful for your input! Your contribution can help the team correctly catalogue the images, which will soon be made available via the Knowledge Management Services Section's brand-new Multimedia Repository. Do you recognize any former colleagues? If so, please reach out to the Multimedia Team and let them know: Carla.mckirdy@un.org

The official launch of the Economic Report on Africa 2019
Africa is at a critical juncture in its development trajectory. Policies adopted now will determine how quickly the continent accelerates growth and creates prosperity for all. In 2015, African countries signed up to two important development agendas: the global 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which aims to leave no one behind as countries develop, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which sets out a blueprint for the “Africa we want”.
