Ethiopia: ECA Library donates books to bolster University Library![]() Pressing ahead with efforts to provide knowledge for better responses to sustainability challenges in Ethiopia, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) on Tuesday 1 November delivered thousands of books to the Diredawa University. Encompassing everything from health(SDG3) to gender equality (SDG5) and education(SDG4), the books donated will contribute to the knowledge needed to fight poverty in all its forms, SDG1 reduce inequalities, SDG10 and tackle climate change SDG13 Led by ECA’s Chief of Knowledge Management Service Section Ms. Irene Onyancha, the donation echoes UNECA’s compelling vision and mission of delivering ideas and actions for an empowered, inclusive, and transformed Africa through the offering and access to top-notch knowledge needed to build resilience. “We need to prepare for and acclimatize to the changes that are coming. To do so, we need access to knowledge and that’s exactly what we are doing today ensuring equitable access to the knowledge needed to solve global challenges” said Ms. Irene Onyancha The donations will go a long way to enrich education and Diredawa’s University Library’s collection with relevant books that address complex continental issues. On their part, the Director of the University Library, Ms. Mekdes Getachew thanked ECA for their usual support in guaranteeing that their knowledge ecosystem is equipped with vital learning enrichment for students and the general public. Over the years, we have been working collaboratively with the host country’s universities and public libraries in supporting access to ECA’s knowledge. We have donated more than 17,000 ECA publications to some 12 institutions as part of our ongoing project to increase our footprint in the country. As part of our contribution to our host country, these publications are on a demand basis and seek to provide the knowledge needed to promote inclusive and sustainable development in line with Agenda 2030 (The SDGs) and Agenda 2063(The Africa We Want). 30 reads |
