Established in 2009, the Institutional Repository, currently known as knowledge repository aimed to use the Open access publishing model that would provide an online mechanism for collecting, preserving and disseminating, in digital format, all ECA publications and other related information resources.
Other overarching objectives were to establish and endorse an institutional framework including policies and guidelines that promote proper development, management and preservation of WECA intellectual output and to digitize all print collections and make them accessible online.
The Knowledge repository has been successful with about 26,000 metadata records created for unique titles of ECA publications and 17,000 publication digitized. In addition, the Knowledge repository software is continuously being upgraded to enhance its functionality in response to users’ changing information needs and the need to adopt new emerging technologies for better knowledge services and products.
A new project for the inclusion of multimedia resources such as videos, photos, speeches and press releases was started in 2014 to ensure that all types of the Commission’s information resources are captures in the ECA repository.
